My week began normally; however, Monday afternoon saw two interesting changes in the behaviour of my PC: One, it took increasingly longer to shutdown and two, its performance felt sluggish. However, as a big update had just landed, I brushed it off and carried on.
In hindsight, probably not my wisest move. After an inspiring Figure Skating session at Guildford Spectrum and Piano lesson, I booted up my machine only to find it trapped in an endless boot loop.
Boot! No, No, No - not of the Figure Skating variety, the other type! You know, of the Computer type. After several forced restarts, I received a white screen informing me of a "CPU Fan Detect Failure". Strange, I thought, it is only a year and a half old. Still, these things randomly happen, don't they?
Long story short, a few days later a qualified technician arrived to replace the fan.
Although both my iPad Pro and Samsung S25 Ultra proved critical in allowing me to continue functioning for most tasks, sadly, not for Web Development as I require the advanced functionality of a full desktop editor to code enhancements to Baldi's Home on the Web.
The moral of my week? Although I have most files stored in various Cloud Drives, I now also have a backup Laptop configured to the same specifications on standby.
Which leaves me asking: if your primary machine went down today, how prepared are you?
